The Congress of Cardiologists of Kyrgyzstan is a significant annual event of the Kyrgyz Society of Cardiology (KSC), which provides an opportunity to discuss important issues related to scientific research of cardiovascular diseases and clinical practice. The work of the Congress is based on the principle of multi-professional approach with involvement of international experts, which has become a distinctive feature of this national event.

The Congress has been held annually since 2014. Since the first Congress, the priority of the KSC work has been co-operation with the global cardiovascular community. The KSC actively collaborates with international professional associations, such as the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the European Heart Failure Association (HFA) of ESC, and European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) of ESC.

The Congress of Cardiologists of Kyrgyzstan was held 6–7 June 2017 in Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, which is well known for its hospitality. The guests of the Congress were given the opportunity to become familiar with the millennial history of the Kyrgyz Republic and visit the historical monuments and stunning local landscapes.

The Scientific Program of the Congress covered many significant modern achievements in the field of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The main topics of the Congress included:

  • — New approaches in the management of cardiac patients

  • — Pharmacotherapy of cardiovascular diseases

  • — Renal involvement in cardiovascular diseases

  • — Problems in the pulmonary circulation

  • — Rhythm and conduction disorders

  • — Prevention of cardiovascular diseases

  • — Comorbid conditions in cardiovascular diseases

  • — Diabetes and cardiovascular diseases

The Congress was attended by leading specialists of the ESC, HFA of ESC, and EHRA of ESC. The scientific program comprised lectures, key reports, and the involvement of young cardiologists and scientists, as well as practical sessions for the possibility of obtaining loans in the field of continuous medical education. Traditionally, an exhibition of pharmaceutical products was organized within the framework of the Congress.

In all, almost 600 delegates from the seven regions of Kyrgyzstan took part in the Congress. The Congress was accredited by the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Department of Public Health of Bishkek. ESC representatives presented the latest advances in cardiology.

The delegates of the Congress: cardiologists, general practitioners, and therapists received credits for continuing medical education. Importantly, practicing physicians did not have to pay a registration fee.

The Congress was featured on national television and printed in the local press. The Cardiology Congress of Kyrgyzstan was held in full compliance with the ESC’s slogan: ‘To reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases in Kyrgyzstan!’
