Abstract

A method of automatic analysis of orthophosphates in sea water using the new Technicon Auto- Analyzer II system is described. The manifold allows for the formation and reduction of phosphomolybdate complex. The standard deviation for 8 determinations is less than 0.01 μg-at/1 at each level from 0 to 3 μg-at PO4-P/I. No interference with ions usually present in sea water has been detected. Results obtained with the automatic method agree very well with those obtained with the manual method, and with a stable base line the system can be linked to a digital printer and allows continuous measurements to be made in oceanographic surveys.
