Ocean warming shapes embryonic developmental prospects of the next generation in Atlantic cod
This Editor’s Choice article explores climate adaptation in fish. The study looked at genetic adaptation of Atlantic cod to rising sea temperatures, providing a deeper understanding of marine species’ response to climate change.

Impacts on population indices if scientific surveys are excluded from marine protected areas
Marine protected areas (MPAs) are increasingly common worldwide, typically restricting fishing activities. However, MPAs may also limit scientific surveys that impact benthic habitat. This study combines a historical data degradation approach and simulation to investigate the effects on population indices of excluding surveys from MPAs.

Calibrating ecosystem models to support ecosystem-based management of marine systems
This Editor's Choice presents two cases: the first explores how vulnerability multipliers emerge based on the chosen calibration approach using simulated data, while the second takes two operational EwE models (Irish Sea and Northwest Atlantic Continental Shelf) and compares their outputs when calibrated following alternate calibration approaches.

Applications and analytical approaches using imaging sonar for quantifying behavioural interactions among aquatic organisms and their environment
In this review we discuss applications of imaging sonar among a meta-analysis of 155 studies of aquatic organisms in their environments.

Beyond métiers: social factors influence fisher behaviour
Discover how integrating social factors with traditional data can transform our understanding of fisheries management, revealing the complex motivations behind fisher behaviours.
Insights on Atlantic bluefin tuna behaviour
Explore the surfacing patterns and seasonal behaviours of Atlantic bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean, crucial for refining aerial survey methodologies and conservation strategies.
Balancing act: small vs. large-scale fisheries
Discover how the coexistence of small-scale and large-scale fisheries impacts employment, income, and food security. The mullet fishery was studied in Brazil, revealing a twist when fishing efforts were restricted.
