Abstract

Mixtures of seed oils of custard-apple, Annona squamosa L., and neem, Azadirachta Indica A. Juss, in 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 proportions (vol/vol) at 5, 10, or 20% concentration were significantly more effective in reducing the survival of a leafhopper N. virescens (Distant) and its transmission of the rice tungro virus than the spray application of individual oils on rice seedlings. Even at 5% concentration, the 1:4 mixture of custard-apple oil and neem oil was as effective as 20% custard-apple oil. The potentiation of the insecticidal action in custard-apple oil and neem oil mixtures is of added value in the control of the vector.
