Objective: This study investigated construct validity of the State Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 (STAXI-2) for assessment of anger in military related mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Method: 23 service members with a mean age of 34.83 (SD = 8.78) and an average of 13.89 (SD = 6.68) years of military service. TBI history was assessed by a specially trained clinician. Thirty-six percent had a single mTBI, 16% had two lifetime mTBIs, and 28% had 3 or more. Participants completed the STAXI-2, as well as measures of aggression (Aggression Behavior Questionnaire; ABQ), depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9; PHQ-9), post-traumatic stress (PTSD Checklist; PCL-C) and resilience (Connor Davidson Resilience Scale; CD-RISC). Results: Five of the 6 STAXI-2 scales were significantly correlated to the ABQ. Trait Anger (r = 0.81, p < 0.001) and Anger Expression-Out (r = 0.72, p < 0.001) had the largest correlations.
