Objective: Despite a proliferation of media reports in recent years about the effect of multiple concussions on long term cognitive and behavioral functioning, less is known empirically about its effect on subjective clinical symptoms and objective cognitive test performance. Method: Participants included 126 active duty Service Members with a history of mTBI (3-24 months post-injury) and current cognitive complaints who were seeking treatment at a military medical center. The Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory (NSI) and Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT) were used as the primary subjective and objective outcome measures, respectively. Subjects were stratified based upon self-reported lifetime concussion frequency (single concussion n = 43; two to four concussions n = 51; five or more concussions n = 31).
