Objective: The relationship between working memory (WM) and different aspects of intelligence, including reasoning, has been widely studied, finding increasing correlations between them. Recently, research has shifted to explore the nature of this relationship, as well as the effects of training WM on reasoning abilities. The purpose of this study was to determine if practicing WM or reasoning tasks causes an increase in performance. Method: This data set was obtained from a cross-cultural study comparing three Spanish versions (Mexican, Puerto Rican, Spaniard) of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-III) focusing on the Similarities (Sim) and Digit Span (DS) subtests. These versions were administered to 120 participants of Hispanic origin in a counter-balanced fashion. Correlations between scores on both tasks were run for each of the three administrations.
