Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the expression of CD36, inflammatory markers and biomarkers of endothelial function in patients with primary hypertension.
Methods: Expressions of CD36 of monocytes, serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), von Willebrand factor (vWF) and nitrate/nitrite (NOx) were measured in 40 patients newly diagnosed with primary hypertension and 30 healthy subjects as controls. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the related factors of mean arterial pressure (MAP).
Results: Compared with 30 control subjects matched for age, sex, blood lipid levels and fasting blood glucose, patients with primary hypertension had increased expressions of CD36 (74.6 % vs 55.2%), TNF-α (60.5 ng/L vs 35.5 ng/L), IL-6 (11.5 ng/L vs 4.9 ng/L) and vWF (141.9 % vs 107.8 %), while decreased NOx levels (51.1 μmol/L vs 76.6 μmol/L, all P<0.01). CD36 positively correlated with TNF-α, IL-6 and vWF, while negatively correlated with NOx. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that CD36, NOx and IL-6 were independent factors associated with MAP.
