Renal wrap hypertension is a resistance mediated form of hypertension. We have shown previously that renal wrap hypertension in rabbits is accompanied by an increase in left ventricular wall thickness and myocyte hypertrophy. Although vascular hypertrophy has been implicated in non-specific vascular reactivity in this model, there is no direct evidence for vessel wall hypertrophy. The objective of this study was to characterize vessel wall thickness in renal, mesenteric and hind-limb skeletal vessels from renal wrap hypertensive rabbits. Renal wrap surgery was performed on 8 rabbits and a sham wrap surgery was performed on 4 control rabbis. Nine weeks after surgery, rabbits were euthanized and perfusion fixed at a constant pressure of 100 mm Hg. Vessels samples were taken from the renal artery, from mesenteric arteries in the 0.5 cm...
