NAlterations in left ventricular (LV) structure and function are frequently present in hemodialysed (HD) pts. Intracardiac and vascular calcifications have been well documented. The aim of the study was to evaluate morphologic and functional myocardial changes and the size and the extent of atherosclerosis lesions in carotid arteries (CA) in a population of HD pts with and without history of hypertension compared with a control group. 23 HD pts (14 M and 9F; mean age 50.7±15.2 y; dialytic age 68±54.2 months), of whom 7 had a history of moderate to severe hypertension (HDH) and 23 control normotensives (14 M and 9 F; mean age 50.4±15.3 y) were submitted to 2D echocardiography and to ultrasonography and color-flow doppler of CA using a Sonos 1000 ultrasound unit...
