Ischemic heart disease is a major complication of hypertension ; one of its manifestations is the silent ischemia. The aim of this study is to analyse in asymptomatic hypertensive patients, the prevalence of silent ischemia as evaluated by ST-segment depression, its circadian distribution and the trigger roles of blood pressure (BP) and heart rate;
Hundred fourteen patients with mild to moderate untreated hypertension (mean age = 51 ±8 years = underwent an ambulatory recording using the combined AMP 5600 monitor which records simultaneously a continuous usual ECG holter with permanent analysis of ST segment and an intermittent (every 15 minutes) non invasive BP measurements with supplementary measurements triggered by the detection of a horizontal or downship ST depression (>1 mm and >60 seconds).
