Festschrift for Dr. John Laragh
By Curt D. Furberg, M.D., Ph.D.
John Laragh is a remarkable man whose numerous contributions exceeded what typically can be achieved during a lifetime. Throughout a professional career of more than six decades, John was a world leader in the field of hypertension. His scientific contributions had a major impact on both science and patient care. He was also a gifted educator and caring mentor. Indeed, his most enduring influence may be as a role model for clinicians everywhere, as well as for the many scientists whose career development he profoundly influenced. His generous advice, encouragement and capacity to nurture was limitless. He was, and remains today, second to none in his loyalty to colleagues and friends.
This Festschrift is testimony to how John Laragh touched and influenced those around him. Ten former fellows, collaborators and colleagues were invited to pay tribute to him. Their personal experiences, commentaries and anecdotes highlight and illustrate his extraordinary legacy. Those of us who were fortunate to have met and interacted with John have been truly privileged.
