Abstract
Varying levels of nitrogen supplied as either nitrate or the ammonium ion were shown to significantly affect the number of peroxisomal profiles per cell section in both barley and the bundle sheath cells of maize. The enzyme activities of nitrate reductase and catalase are also shown to be correlated with the number of peroxisomal profiles. The implications of these relationships are discussed.
