Abstract
In a laboratory, green plants grow better in air enriched in carbon dioxide, suggesting that recent increases in atmospheric CO2 could increase the primary productivity of ecosystems and that ecosystems could serve as major sites for storage of CO2. This potential is examined in relation to ecological interactions and man's direct effects on biota.
