Cover: Plants are some of the best studied of nature’s chefs (species that produce or mimic food). Many provide honest meals for consumers that benefit the plant by providing pollination, seed dispersal, or defense, such as this acrobat ant (Crematogaster sp.) that is obtaining a nectar drink from an Inga tree’s extrafloral nectary structure. Ants aggressively defend plants with extrafloral nectaries from herbivorous animals ranging in size from aphids to peccaries. This and other of nature’s chefs are discussed in an article in this issue by Brad W. Taylor and colleagues. Photograph by Lauren Nichols, North Carolina State University..
