This pocket book was first published in 1990 and is now in its fifth edition. The book aims to provide the main pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the drugs with which a practising anaesthetist is expected to be familiar. The new fifth edition has done away with the old redundant drugs and added new drugs. The book is intended for the use of anaesthetists of all grades, critical care professionals, operating department personnel, paramedics, and pre-hospital care specialists.

The book includes 184 drugs that have been arranged in alphabetical order, with the description of each drug limited to between one and three pages.
