Abstract
In presenting the results of the measurements of air and water quality and of noise levels in the four research localities (all Kafr al-Elow, Dar al-Salam, Sayyida Zeinab, and Abkhas), the goal of this chapter is to show the similarities and differences between the research localities in terms of actual quality of the environmental conditions. This information provides background for the attitudes, opinions, and experiences described by the respondents in these localities. This is the real situation to which they were reacting. While the data assembled by the research team may differ in detail from data collected elsewhere in greater Cairo, it is consistent with it. Generally speaking, the data show that the most affected environment is in Dar al-Salam, followed by Kafr al-Elow, although water is the most problematic in Abkhas.
