Abstract
This chapter discusses a passage of Clearchus of Soli in which he narrates a meeting and conversation between a Greek philosopher and a Jew, and tries to determine whether it is really enthusiastic toward the wisdom of the Jews, identifying the qualities the passage credits to the Jewish people. It also explains why Clearchus considered these qualities worthy of imitation and why the author credited these qualities to the Jews, trying to determine what the passage—as a whole—was intended to express.
