Abstract
This chapter describes the rebellion's consequences for the last Hūdids as the reyes moros (Moor kings) of Arrixaca (1266–1296). The return of Castilian rule permitted the dynasty to remain as Muslim governors, but with no clear way to participate in the region's administration or in the wider political affairs of Iberia. The faltering of the dynasty and Aragon's invasion of Murcia allowed for the rise of their vassals, the Banū Ḥudayr, who worked to succeed the Banū Hūd by claiming their titles and authority. These lords proved useful to the Aragonese kings as emissaries to the Naṣrids and as a stabilizing force within Murcia. In exchange, they received recognition of their legal authority over the Muslim community as they gradually lost their patrimony and disappeared.
