Dr. Stanley Andrisse is an assistant professor at Howard University College of Medicine researching type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. He studies the role of adipose tissue, hepatocytes, and muscle in contributing to the development of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes. Dr. Andrisse is interested in sex differences in these processes, in particular the effects of the hyperandrogenism seen in polycystic ovary syndrome as well as racial and ethnic disparities. Dr. Andrisse is a visiting faculty at Georgetown University Medical Center and has held positions at Imperial College London and Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Daniel J. Bernard, PhD
McGill University
Montréal, Québec, Canada
Dr. Bernard is a professor of pharmacology and therapeutics, anatomy and cell biology, physiology, and obstetrics and gynecology at McGill University in Montréal, Québec, Canada. He is the director of the McGill Centre for Research in Reproduction and Development and is a member of the Integrated Program in Neuroscience. The Bernard lab investigates the neuroendocrine control of the reproductive and thyroid axes. The lab is particularly interested in mechanisms of TGFβ superfamily and GnRH regulation of gonadotropin synthesis, as well as mechanisms underlying immunoglobulin superfamily member 1 (IGSF1) deficiency syndrome.
Kristy A. Brown, PhD
University of Kansas Medical Center
Kansas City, Kansas, USA
Dr. Brown is an associate professor of Metabolism and Cancer in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center and co-Program Leader of Cancer Prevention and Control at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Her lab’s research aims to characterize mechanisms of tumor formation and progression in relation to obesity and dysregulated metabolism, and to identify novel strategies for intervention. Her expertise includes mechanisms of aromatase regulation in adipose tissue, as well as the role of adipokines, ghrelin, unacylated ghrelin, inflammatory mediators, and steroid hormones in driving changes in breast cancer cells and cells of the breast microenvironment.
Frances E. Carr, PhD
The University of Vermont
Burlington, Vermont, USA
Dr. Carr is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and an Associate Director of the UVM Cancer Center in the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. Her research program is focused on understanding the epigenomic and genomic mechanisms of thyroid hormone action to facilitate understanding of the mechanisms by which thyroid hormones and thyroid hormone receptors regulate development and tumorigenesis. Research areas of emphasis include elucidation of key chromatin-modifying proteins that facilitate thyroid hormone receptor beta tumor suppression in thyroid and breast cancers.
Paola Divieti Pajevic, MD, PhD
Boston University
Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Dr. Divieti Pajevic is an associate professor of translational dental medicine at Boston University's Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Her research explores how mechanical forces and hormonal signals impact osteocytes, both in vitro and in vivo. Her lab has created various tools, including cell lines and transgenic mice, to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying bone metabolism and the effects of hormones.
Marina Olga Fernandez, PhD
Instituto de Biología y Medicina Experimental, Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (IByME-CONICET)
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Dr Fernandez is an Associate Researcher of CONICET at the Instituto de Biología y Medicina Experimental in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her interests involve understanding how environmental stimuli, such as components of the diet and contaminants, affect the endocrine system. She is presently studying the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on the physiology of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. She is author or co-author of several papers and a book chapter, and serves as a peer reviewer for academic journals. She is also peer reviewer of grants, promotions, and entries to the Scientific Researcher Career Program of CONICET and FONCyT grants in her home country.
Daniel E. Frigo, PhD
University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Houston, Texas, USA
Dr. Frigo is a professor in the Departments of Cancer Systems Imaging (primary where he also serves as deputy chair) and Genitourinary Medical Oncology (secondary) at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Frigo’s research is focused on understanding the basic biology of prostate cancer for the purpose of developing new therapies to treat the advanced stages of the disease. His expertise includes steroid hormone signaling and nuclear receptors, endocrine-related cancers, signal transduction, and cancer metabolism.
J. Dinny Graham, PhD
Westmead Institute for Medical Research
Westmead, Australia
