Abstract
This introductory chapter discusses the Urarina, which is an indigenous Amazonian society occupying the Chambira Basin of northeastern Peru. Aside from providing background information on the main topic of the book, it also looks at the purposes and aims of the preceding chapters. The different research methods used by the author in gathering data are also highlighted.
