Eyerly, Sarah, and others, 'Reconstructing the Sonic History of Mission San Luis de Talimali', in Tanya M. Peres, and Rochelle A. Marrinan (eds), Unearthing the Missions of Spanish Florida (Gainesville, FL , 2021; online edn, Florida Scholarship Online, 19 May 2022), https://doi.org/10.5744/florida/9781683402510.003.0009, accessed 18 Apr. 2025.
Abstract
In this chapter, the authors use their expertise in musicology, music performance, and geography to reconstruct the sonic history of Mission San Luis. Drawing on broad categories of evidence, such as archaeological data, historical research, soundscape compositions, field recordings, and historically-informed recordings of spoken texts and music they bring to the forefront the soundways of La Florida’s paramount mission community and an outlying farmstead. They offer eight historical soundscape compositions. Each acoustical reconstruction has explanatory text and are linked to a Soundscape Map hosted on the companion website.
