The Japanese Biochemical Society introduced the JB Reviewer Award in 2020 with the aim of recognizing and rewarding the invaluable contribution of referees to the Journal of Biochemistry. It is awarded annually to outstanding referees among those who reviewed manuscripts submitted to the journal during the previous calendar year. This year we are recognizing reviews submitted during the period from 1st January to 31st December 2020. Associate Editors evaluate reviews submitted by referees based on the criteria of timeliness and quality assessment during the peer review process of each manuscript. The Editorial Board selects the winners based on this evaluation. The prize is awarded to up to five referees per year. We like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to all our referees.
