Having recently completed 13 years of executive leadership across medical schools and health faculties in Birmingham and Leeds, Professor Paul Stewart is Professor of Medicine (Emeritus) at the University of Leeds. He has completed 40 years of clinical service in the NHS as a consultant endocrinologist. He received his medical degree from Edinburgh Medical School and was awarded a postgraduate MD from Edinburgh University with Honours and a Gold Medal.

Professor Stewart’s clinical and research expertise includes the management of pituitary and adrenal disorders, endocrine hypertension and reproductive medicine. His primary research interests are centered on cortisol and its metabolism in the pathogenesis of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and ageing. He has published over 400 original research articles, has trained 40 PhD/MD fellows and has delivered numerous prize lectures, including the Royal College of Physicians Linacre and Goulstonian Lectures, the Society for Endocrinology Dale Medal lectures and the Clinical Investigator Award. He received the Laureate Award for International Excellence in Endocrinology from the Endocrine Society in 2018.

Professor Stewart has served as Clinical Vice-President and President of the Academy of Medical Sciences and on Council and other committees of the Endocrine Society. He was Secretary-Treasurer to the International Society of Endocrinology from 2005 - 2019.

Professor Stewart is a primary investigator within the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Centre in Leeds and an Emeritus NIHR Senior Clinical Investigator. He is trustee/ chair of research and board Vice-Chair at Prostate Cancer UK. He was awarded a CBE in the 2025 King’s new year’s honours list.

His research and clinical interests focus on steroid biosynthesis and its disorders, including basic enzymology, steroid profiling with mass spectrometry, and new treatments for these conditions.

Bertrand Cariou is a professor of endocrinology in Nantes University Hospital and director of l’institut du thorax, a joint structure in translational research dedicated to cardiometabolic diseases at the University of Nantes, France. He is also leading the Clinical Investigation Center in Endocrinology, Diabetology & Nutrition at l’institut du thorax to develop high-level translational research. His research and clinical interests focus on lipid disorders, including familial hypercholesterolemia, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver diseases (MASLD), and their cardiovascular disease-related complications.

Channa N. Jayasena, MD, PhD

Channa Jayasena is reader / principal investigator at Imperial College, London. He is also a consultant in reproductive endocrinology at Imperial College and St. Mary's and Hammersmith Hospitals, London, and Head of Andrology for North-West London Pathology Services. His clinic specialises in the treatment of all patients with complex or rare reproductive endocrine disorders. Dr. Jayasena qualified in medicine at Cambridge University, after which he undertook specialist training in diabetes and endocrinology in London and performed research at Imperial College as a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellow and subsequently National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) clinical lecturer. In 2018, Dr. Jayasena was awarded an NIHR post-doctoral fellowship investigating the metabolic regulation of male infertility. His research focuses on improving the management of male reproductive disorders using clinical and translational approaches. Dr. Jayasena is also lead for the Society for Endocrinology  Specialist Endocrinology Network for Andrology and has led or participated in the development of various clinical guidelines.

Ulla Kampmann is a senior physician at Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus, Aarhus University Hospital and Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University. Apart from taking care of pregnant women with diabetes as a clinician, she performs clinical research within the field of diabetes and insulin resistance. Her specific interest is maternal metabolism in pregnant women with obesity, gestational diabetes and pre-gestational diabetes and the derived effects on mother and child.

Chin Meng Khoo is the current head and senior consultant endocrinologist in the Department of Medicine at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore. His research interests include insulin resistance, obesity, and diabetes mellitus. He leads the Metabolic Phenotyping Unit, which focuses on human beta-cell function and insulin resistance phenotyping.

Her clinical and research interests centre on pituitary endocrinology, with specific expertise in the biology and management of aggressive pituitary tumours.

Subsequently, Dr Mericq spent two years as a visiting fellow at the Developmental Endocrinology Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda. She also undertook a rotation at the Joslin Diabetes Clinic, Pediatric Department in Boston. Her main research interest is human growth interactions with carbohydrate metabolism/insulin sensitivity.

Moffat Nyirenda is a diabetologist/endocrinologist, professor of medicine at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and director of the Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit. His research interests lie in understanding differential manifestations of diabetes in low-income settings, notably sub-Saharan Africa, including the role of early life exposures, such as malnutrition and interactions with infection.

His major clinical interests and scientific research include pituitary and adrenal diseases, with a focus on Cushing syndrome and acromegaly, as well as andrology and reproductive medicine. He is a principal investigator of international multicenter studies on Cushing syndrome, acromegaly, and adrenal diseases. He is a staff member of the UNESCO Chair on Health Education and Sustainable Development at Università Federico II di Napoli.
