Sequential Sampling Plan for Larvae of Monochamus in Lodgepole Pine Logs

Abstract

A sequential sampling plan is presented for classifying the severity of damage by larvae of Monochamus to decked and scattered logs of lodgepole pine, Pinus contorta Douglas var. latifolia Engelmann, into light, medium, and heavy infestation classes. The infestation classes are based on percent value-loss of individual logs caused by degrade from woodborer holes. Sampling is confined to the infested outer portion of decks and to the 10 o’clock positions of the logs (12 o’clock being the top). The sampling plan calls for the examination of 1 ft² of bark area on each selected log. Sampling should be done after September following the summer of attack.
