Abstract
Dominant white testa color was recently found in the cultivated peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.). This white-seeded germ plasm line (PI 408735) was test-crossed with the tan-colored Krinkle-leaf genotype and the Tennessee Red and Makulu Red cultivars. The results in the F1, F2, and F3 progeny indicate that the dominant white testa color of PI 408735 is simply inherited. The gene symbol Wh is proposed for this unusual peanut characteristic.
