The Journal of International Economic Law is now entering its ninth year of publication, as it continues to publish thoughtful and scholarly works designed to assist readers in their understanding of legal issues relating to the remarkably fast changing circumstances of international economic activity. The manifold developments of international trade, with its now eleven-year-old World Trade Organization (WTO), and the ‘spaghetti bowl’ of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements continue to occupy considerable attention. The Doha Trade Negotiation Round and the Hong Kong WTO Ministerial Conference (the sixth such meeting) clearly will continue to hold a central place in world attention, with extremely interesting economic analyses suggesting an enormous potential for such activities resulting in a reduction of poverty in the world, as well as promoting peace and importantly impacting on nation-state ‘good governance’ practices.
