PDQ (Physician Data Query) is the National Cancer Institute’s source of comprehensive cancer information. It contains peer-reviewed, evidence-based cancer information summaries on treatment, supportive care, screening, prevention, genetics, and complementary and alternative medicine. The summaries are regularly updated by six editorial boards. The following PDQ summaries were recently updated:

van Hagen P, Hulshof MC, van Lanschot JJ, et al.: Preoperative chemoradiotherapy for esophageal or junctional cancer. N Engl J Med 366 (22): 2074–84, 2012. PMID: 22646630

The PDQ Esophageal Cancer Treat ment summary was recently updated to include results from the CROSS (NCT01498289) study. In this study, 366 patients with resectable esophageal or gastroesophageal junction cancers were randomly assigned to receive either surgery alone or weekly administration of carboplatin (dose titrated to achieve an AUC [area under the curve] of 2mg/mL/minute) and paclitaxel (50mg/m 2 BSA [body surface area]) and concurrent radiation therapy (41.4 Gy in 23 fractions) administered over 5 weeks. The majority of the patients enrolled in the study had adenocarcinoma (75%).
