Summary

Intermittent anaerobiosis has been postulated as a condition that can directly or indirectly induce malignant transformation of tissue cells in vitro. Support for this postulate was sought in the long-term tests herein reported on fibroblasts from C57BL and I strain mice. No influence of the anaerobic treatment on time or manifestation of malignant conversion could be detected under the conditions of these experiments. An observation incidental to this study is that the type of culture medium in which the cells are growing may influence their response to anaerobic conditions.
