Summary
A monolayer culture system has been developed that permits the study of the interactions of purified Shope papilloma virus with skin cells from fetuses of domestic rabbits in vitro. The virus readily adsorbed to these cells, but replication of virus or morphological transformation of the cells could not be shown. However, when the cells were transplanted to the cheek pouch of the hamster, typical papillomas developed.
