Summary

The morphologic changes in the regional lymph nodes and spleens of C3H/HeN mice were analyzed after transplantation of an isogeneic methylcholanthrene-induced sarcoma. This tumor has strong transplantation antigenicity. The results were compared with those obtained after transplantation of isogeneic and allogeneic spleen cells. The changes in the lymphoid organs of the mice receiving either tumor cells or allogeneic spleen cells corresponded with those described in the literature after administration of well-defined antigens. Consequently, the morphology of the lymphoid organs of the animals with tumors indicates that an antigenic substance stimulates these organs. However, this antigen may not be an integral part of the tumor itself, since a virus or other extraneous antigenic agent could have been present.
