Summary

Each primary viral-induced hamster tumor has its own characteristic morphology. The morphologic appearance varies in some tumors, frequently depending on their location andthe cell type affected. With other tumors the morphology changes on late-passage transplantation. Some of the viruses caused pathognomonic visceral lesions or characteristic giant cells. A few of the questions raised by the morphologic study of these lesions are briefly discussed in relation to pertinent virology and immunology. Morphologic studies in viral oncology may indeed shed more valuable information on many basic problems in this field.
