Summary
Seven compounds, which are monomethyl derivatives of the previously tested 5′-(p-dimethylaminophenylazo)quinoline (Q5′), have now been prepared and tested for hepatocarcinogenic action in rats. The one omission is the 4′-methyl, which has not as yet been prepared. The compounds were tested in rats at the 0.03% level and compared with p-dimethylaminoazobenzene (DAB). The order is Q5′, 2′-methylQ5′, 7′-methylQ5′, 8′-methylQ5′⋙ 2-methylQ5′, 3-methylQ5′≫3′-methylQ5′>DAB >6′-methylQ5′. 8′-MethylQ5′ was also tested at 0.01% because of its great toxicity.
