Summary

Tables of deaths from malignant melanoma of skin by age, sex, and site of primary tumor are available for England and Wales for 1958–67 since the introduction of the VIIth revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases. The incidence of malignant melanoma of the lower limb in females is high. Women have high death rates from melanomas of the lower limb, compared to other sites and to the rates for lower limb in males. The excess mortality from malignant melanoma of the lower limb in females is currently at a maximum at ages 40–44.
