Summary
A method was developed by which Yaba tumor poxvirus was assayed by plaque count. Plaque production by Yaba virus, which replicates in cynomolgus monkey kidney cells with a mild killing effect, was demonstrated by use of 50 mM MgCI2 in a second agar overlay added 5 days after infection to kill selectively the infected cells. Plaques formed were approximately 0.5 mm in diameter. Plaque formation was inhibited with Yaba-specific antiserum.
