Summary
Herpesvirus saimiri (HVS) was found to replicate in human cell cultures. Cytopathic effects in WI-38 cells were produced by HVS when cells were pretreated with diethylaminoethyl-dextran. The presence of complement-fixation (CF) antigen in HVS-infected cells could be used as a determinant of the viral infection. The relative yields of CF antigen parallel the relative yield of infectious virus.
