Summary
Six lipomatous tumors of the kidneys were found among rats belonging to six small experimental groups (less than nine animals each) treated with various “natural” products. These products included materials containing pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Heliotropium supinum L., Amsinckia intermedia fisch and Mey, and pure retrorsine, as well as α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, 3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamaldehyde, and those in incense smoke. The histopathology of these tumors is described.
