Summary
A turbidometric method was described for the quantitation of concanavalin A (Con A)-induced agglutination of 2 cultured Iymphoblastoid cell lines, Raji and HRIK. This simple, rapid method gave reproducible results. The degree and rate of agglutination depended on cell density, ConA concentration, temperature, and mitotic activity of the cells. Prior trypsinization of the cells enhanced agglutination twofold. Phytohemagglutinin was as effective as Con A in agglutinating these cells, but pokeweed mitogen was ineffectual.
