Summary

Intramitochondrial virions (IMV) of identical morphology were observed by thin-section electron microscopy in 3 reptilian cell lines: VSW, VH-2, and GL-1. Two factors—supraoptimal incubation temperatures and rhabdovirus superinfection—significantly enhanced the production of these particles in VSW cells. Moderate enhancement of IMV in VH-2 cells was achieved by higher incubation temperature; IMV incidence in VH-2 and GL-1 cell lines was somewhat increased by incubation with a supernatant derived from a spleen cell culture of a corn snake with a C-type virus-producing sarcoma.
