Colorectal cancer is the third most common canceer in both men and women in the United States. Incedence increased through much of the 1970s and early 1980s for the U.S. men and women, both black and white. In recent years, rates for blacks have overtaken rates for whites. Between 1985 and 1993 there were substantial declines in incedence for both white men and white women, and the rate for black women may also be starting to decline.
