Lovell A. Jones, Ph.D., professor of gynecologic oncology, biochemistry, and molecular biology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, is one of three health care professionals to recently receive Howard University Hospital’s 2000 Legacy of Leadership Award.
The award is presented to individuals from across the nation who exemplify Howard University Hospital’s commitment to excellence in health care education, leadership, and advocacy. The award recognizes his efforts in advancing major health initiatives that have improved the quality of life for minorities and the poor.
He is the co-founder of the Intercultural Cancer Council, which is the largest multicultural and multidisciplinary coalition addressing cancer issues related to minorities and medically underserved areas in the United States.
Swafford Honored
Joseph Swafford, M.D., an associate professor of medicine at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, recently received the Women and Minorities Volunteer of the Year Award from the American Heart Association, Texas Affiliate.
