Some journals that accept LaTeX submissions provide a TeX template on the Instructions To Authors webpage. Where possible, please use this template to create your paper.
If the title doesn’t provide a TeX template, please ensure these files are included for publication:
- 1. cls (class) files.
- 2. .bib or .bbl files.
- 3. .sty (style) files (author’s defined macros either in style file or in Tex file).
- 4. figures and tables used in that article.
- 5. .bst, if used (author’s own bibliography style file).
- 6. compiled PDF output (for reference).
- 7. any additional files (e.g., relevant fonts).
When submitting to the journal, you should upload the main .tex file as well as all supporting files. No additional styles should be used unless necessary (e.g., to include figure files, to set diagrams, etc.). The use of private macros is discouraged. Only macros used in the manuscript should be supplied with the article (i.e., whole macro libraries from authors’ sites should not be submitted).
References should be supplied in the standard journal format using \bibitem and the bibliography environment. No private programs or counters should be used to generate the style of citations and references. If you are not using the journal class file because the journal doesn’t have one on its webpage, please follow the journal style instructions found in the Instructions to Authors.
Authors are asked to use the LaTeX tags like \ref, \cite, etc., for the automatic referencing to figures, tables, reference citations, etc. If these are not used, the manuscript will be held up in acceptance and pre-production stages.
Submissions through ScholarOne
ScholarOne supports TeX version 7.4.5 and earlier.
Uploading your files
Please upload the main file first with the designation 'Main Document', followed by all of the files associated with the document.
Please specify a File Designation that best describes each file you upload. Files that are part of a TeX/LaTeX document should be designated as a "TeX/LaTeX Suppl File." You should:
- Always upload your main LaTex file first (before ANY other files).
- Then upload each file that is a part of the LaTex file needed for processing as LaTex Supplemental files.
- Be sure to upload ALL style sheets that are part of the document.
- All images must be EPS files in order for the files to properly format.
Note that the class file will need to be uploaded along with your main document so that ScholarOne will be able to convert your files to PDF.
Some journals will provide options for you to submit all your files zipped together. If so, include all of your source files as above in a zip file. Also take care to supply a PDF of the article separate from this package (i.e., not zipped).
Images embedded within Tex or LaTex files should be in EPS format only.
If you need to include other images such as PDF, JPEG, GIF or TIF files, please remove references to them from the main TeX file and upload them with the designation 'Image File'. ScholarOne does not support LaTex conversion with these types of images.
Type 3 fonts can cause errors during PDF creation. This is because Type 3 fonts are actually bitmaps, which display poorly on screen in PDF files and sometimes cause printing problems. Examples of Type 3 fonts include PCL fonts, MacOS bitmap fonts, Windows vector (outline) fonts, and Postscript Type 3 bitmapped fonts.
ScholarOne recommends that you substitute a standard Adobe Postscript Type 1 fonts for any bitmap fonts.
