How do I know if I am eligible?

To be eligible to publish Open Access and use funding from the Finnish Institutions (FinELib affiliated) you must:

  • be the corresponding author of the article
  • be affiliated with one of the Finnish institutions listed here
  • be publishing in an eligible journal listed here
  • be publishing a peer-reviewed primary research article

Your institution will verify your eligibility before paying your Open Access charge.

I’m an eligible author, what do I need to do?

To request use of Finnish Institutions (FinELib affiliated) funds for Open Access follow the steps below or download the step-by-step guide:

Step 1

Once your paper has been accepted for publication, as the corresponding author you will receive an email with a link to OUP’s online licencing and payment system.

Step 2

Log in to sign your licence to publish. The Finnish national policy on open access strongly recommends the selection of the CC BY licence.

[Please note, you will be asked to confirm that you will pay the Open Access charge but you will not need to pay the charge provided that your eligibility is confirmed by the institution. We recommend you check eligibility with your institution before choosing the Open Access licence.]

Step 3

Proceed to payment and select ‘Finnish Institutions (FinELib affiliated)’ from the dropdown list of institutions beneath ‘Open Access Prepayment Account’ on the Article Charges page.

Check the ‘Refer Charge?’ box next to the Open Access charge, and then click ‘Refer Charges’ at the bottom of the page.

Provide the information requested on the ‘Confirm Address’ page and complete the request. You will receive an email confirming that your request has been sent to the institution.

The institution will review your request and verify that you are eligible.
You will need to arrange payment separately for any other charges applicable to your article, i.e. page or colour charges.

Step 4

You will receive an email when the institution verifies your eligibility and the Open Access charge has been paid.

If your request is not approved you will need to arrange payment of the Open Access charge via another method, either credit/debit card or invoice.

Please direct any queries regarding use of the funds in the Open Access Prepayment Account to [email protected] or to FinELib at [email protected].

If you have requested an invoice for your open access charge but are eligible to publish through the agreement as described above, please contact your librarian or the OUP team and we will assist you.
