Optional author publication charges
In the majority of our journals, authors have the option to publish their paper under the Oxford Open initiative; for a charge, their paper will be made freely available online immediately upon publication. The charges for optional open access publication vary from journal to journal, between £1000-£2500. Please see the 'Instructions to Authors' pages of individual journals to find out the applicable charge.
A small number of our journals charge a higher open access publication charge for use of CC-BY compared to the prices for publication under the other Creative Commons licences. Please visit the Instructions to Authors page of an individual journal to find out licence prices.
For most journals the optional open access charges are in addition to any normal (excess) page charges and colour charges that might apply.
Orders from UK will be subject to a VAT charge at the current VAT rate. For orders from the rest of the EU, we will assume that the service is provided for business purposes, please provide a VAT number for yourself or your institution and ensure you account for your own local VAT correctly.
If you have a query regarding refunds, please contact our open access team who will be able to assist you. Refund requests are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
