MBE Call For Papers

Molecular Biology and Evolution (MBE) is pleased to issue calls for papers in the following five areas. All manuscripts will be reviewed immediately upon submission and accepted manuscripts will be published quickly online and in the print journal. Authors should note that MBE has a high impact factor (10+). It is the top specialist journal in Molecular Evolution and among the top in Evolutionary Biology. MBE makes decisions in less than four weeks, on average. Visit MBE online for additional information about the journal, or click here to submit a paper.

Tree of Life

MBE is now accepting manuscripts that present evolutionary relationships of species established by large-scale molecular phylogenetic analysis and timescales for important taxonomic groups. Manuscripts describing methods, software, and resources relating to building of large-scale molecular phylogenetics will also be considered. The submission deadlines are December 15 and June 15 annually. Specify "CFP-Tree” when submitting online.

Evolution in Medicine

MBE invites contributions that report significant uses of molecular evolution as enabling technology to predict phenotypic consequences of exome and genome variation in humans and other organisms. Contributions presenting advances in methods and resources for these purposes will also be considered. The submission deadlines are January 15 and July 15 every year. Specify "CFP-Medicine” when submitting online.

Evolutionary Genomics

MBE invites contributions that present novel insights from the analysis of large data sets of genotype-phenotype relationships, including the studies of evolution of development through genomics, genome analysis of behavioral evolution, and evolution of novel traits. The submission deadlines are February 1 and August 1 annually. Specify "CFP-Genomics” when submitting online.

Software and Database Updates

MBE invites contributions that present significant updates of software tools and databases that have proven to be critical enabling technologies for molecular evolutionary studies. Contributions should be Brief Communications (2 – 4 printed pages). Manuscripts must clearly describe how updates described will broaden the usage or the application scope of the resource. MBE also welcomes contributions describing new resources that have clear potential to become broadly used in evolutionary analysis. All published resources must be made available freely for general usage at the time of publication. The submission deadlines are February 15, June 15, and October 15 every year. Specify "CFP-Resource” when submitting online.

Experimental Evolution

MBE invites contributions that present novel insights into molecular evolutionary processes from analyses of patterns of molecular and phenotype changes observed in laboratory evolutionary conditions. Contributions presenting new experimental technologies and resources will also be considered. The deadlines for submission are March 1 and September 1 every year. Specify "CFP-Experimental” when submitting online.

In general, MBE is committed to serving the needs of the community by publishing ALL original reports of significant discoveries, methods, and resources. Contributions may present novel and important empirical results that provide significant insights into molecular evolutionary patterns, processes, and predictions at all levels of taxonomic, functional, genomic, and phenotypic organization. MBE also considers contributions describing new and improved methods, resources, and theories that will catalyze our understanding of molecular evolution. Importantly, we intend to increase the number of papers published in MBE to accommodate manuscripts received in response to these calls for papers.
