Abstract

The anatomy of Cornirostra (new genus) pellucida (Laseron), a marine Indo-West Pacific gastropod, is described and is shown to be similar to that of the northern hemisphere, freshwater Valvatidae. There are, however, several differences between Cornirostra and valvatids, notably in details of the anatomy of the reproductive system, the morphology of the head-foot, the spawn and in radular characters that warrant family-level separation for Cornirostra.

Tomura bicaudata (Pilsbry and McGinty) from Florida is also a member of the family.
