Batko and colleagues review the last definitions and treatment strategies of monoclonal gammopathies, a fast evolving field with important renal consequences. From B cells defects to tissue accumulation of abnormal proteins, these gammopathies are usually sensitive to chemotherapy, immunomodulation and monoclonal antibodies.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is very common in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). In some series, survival is reduced to <1 year in MM patients with AKI who do not recover renal function, and moreover the reversibility of MM-associated AKI is an important predictor of patient survival .
