Abstract

Fracture of the dorsum sellae is a rare occurrence. We report two such cases of nontraumatic origin. One case was associated with long-standing hydrocephalus and the other was considered to be due to sudden operative decompression of a cystic pituitary adenoma via the trans-sphenoidal approach. The common characteristic of our two cases is that the dorsum sellae fractured in its upper portion and dislocated anteroinferiorly, producing a bowing shape on the roentgenogram, hence the name salaam fracture.
