Abstract

In experimental subjects who experienced equal periods of starvation and a 1,000 calorie-80 per cent fat diet, the weight loss in the former period, although greater, was derived largely (65 per cent) from a reduction of lean body mass. On the ketogenic diet a greater loss of body fat occurred with no significant effect upon the lean body mass.
