Publishing with PCP: Author Benefits

We are delighted to share that the latest Impact Factor for Plant & Cell Physiology (PCP) is 3.9; 5-yr Impact Factor, 4.7 (Source: Journal Impact Factor™, from Clarivate, 2024).

Whether a past author, or publishing your research for the first time, we would love to welcome you into our PCP community. Read the benefits of publishing with us below.

1. Broad Scope

Amongst the broad range of topics covered by this international journal, readers will find the very best original research on plant physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular genetics, epigenetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics and –omics; as well as how plants respond to and interact with their environment (abiotic and biotic factors), and the biology of photosynthetic microorganisms.

2. Established Society Journal with Academic Editors

PCP was established in 1959 as the official journal of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists (JSPP). PCP boasts an international editorial board of around 50 scientists at all career stages and welcomes submissions from JSPP members and non-members alike. As a not-for-profit society journal, you can help suport the research community by publishing with us. Click here for further details.

3. FREE Publication for JSPP Members

From November 1st 2023, all accepted manuscripts (originally submitted after this date) will be published free of charge for all JSPP members (standard license only; JSPP members will also benefit from a 20% discount on OA fees).

4. Rapid Review and Publication

On average, it takes 22 days from submission to first decision. We also offer fast-track peer-review for 'Rapid Paper' submissions (15.5 days average to first decision); these are made freely available (i.e. without subscription) for the first 3 months upon publication acceptance. In addition, all accepted manuscripts are published in Advance Access with their unique DOI, thus are citable ahead of final issue publication. Further details can be found in the ITA.

5. Format-Free Submissions

All new submissions can be sent to the journal format-free, including direct submissions of BioRxiv preprints, thereby making submissions to PCP easier, faster, and more author-friendly. In addition, we offer flexible manuscript categories to choose from, including: rapid papers, regular papers, letters, commentary articles, database papers and review papers; more information can be found here.

6.  Open Access Options Available

Authors may opt to publish their work as Open Access (instead of standard license publication) to make their paper fully accessible to all readers as soon as it is published online. Learn more about our Open Access initiatives.

7.  Read & Publish Agreements

OUP has a growing number of Read and Publish agreements with institutions and consortia to provide funding for open access publishing. This means authors from participating institutions can publish open access, with the host institution covering the fees. Search for participating institutions here

8. Innovative Digital Publishing

Your article will be on our Oxford Academic platform, which provides a comprehensive suite of features and capabilities for authors. Oxford Academic is easy to use, allowing readers to discover and explore your content from any device. It has been developed using award-winning technology to meet the community’s research needs. There is powerful faceted searching across text and images, downloadable content to enable offline use, and static DOIs and social tools so that readers can share and discuss your article easily. Readers can also use their own accessibility tools and software, as we continue our work to adhere to evolving accessibility standards, including the World Wide Web Consortium guidelines.

9. Article Metrics

Article-level metrics, including usage, citations, and Altmetric scores are available for all articles published in the journal, allowing you to understand the reach of your research, and the attention it is receiving online.

10. Special Issues

PCP publishes several Special Issues a year covering a range of trending topics which help authors get their article in front of relevant readers.
